The Stompwijk Horse Days
The Stompwijk Horse Days have been a cherished tradition in Stompwijk and far beyond for over a century. This year marks the 113th edition, as the residents of this polder village in the Green Heart of the Netherlands once again dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to organizing a vibrant and festive event for young and old alike.
While equestrian sports take center stage during the Stompwijk Horse Days, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. For children, there’s a four-day fair packed with a wide range of attractions. On Saturday afternoon, visitors can explore the Stompwijk Country Living FAIR, while the show jumping competition unfolds, where riders compete for the coveted “Heroes of Nooit Gedacht” challenge trophy.
On Sunday, the popular pony races take place—an afternoon that traditionally serves as a grand reunion for families, friends, former Stompwijk residents, and horse lovers. The youngest visitors can even get a taste of a future in pony racing, as during the break there’s the chance to ride a donkey. Start them young!
The undisputed highlight of the Stompwijk Horse Days is the kortebaandraverij (short-track trotting race), beloved by owners, jockeys, and spectators alike. It is the only short-track race in the Netherlands held on grass. And no matter where you’re standing or sitting, you have a perfect view of all the action!
